Lawyer – Litigation & Advocacy (Queensland)

About the role

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Lawyer to join the legal team of Queensland’s independent building and construction regulator. The successful candidate will provide high‑quality advocacy and litigation support across a range of administrative and court proceedings that protect consumers and support the construction industry in Queensland.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver advocacy services in administrative review and disciplinary proceedings before the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal and other tribunals.
• Represent the regulator in judicial review and other matters in the Supreme Court, as well as appellate work in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.
• Conduct litigation on behalf of the regulator, managing caseloads, developing strategies, and preparing complex legal documents such as statements of reasons, applications, witness statements, briefs and submissions.
• Provide specialist legal advice by researching legislation and policy, identifying appropriate legal strategies and advising QBCC staff and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in litigation, including appearing as an advocate before courts and tribunals.
• Strong ability to apply contemporary legal principles and practices to a variety of proceedings.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and mediation skills.
• Customer‑focused, solutions‑oriented approach and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
