Vocational Skills Instructor

About the role

The Vocational Skills Instructor delivers culturally appropriate vocational and industry‑based training within a prison workshop and classroom environment. This role supports prison operations by providing on‑the‑job instruction, accredited training and supervision to inmates working in construction‑related trades.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily workshop and classroom activities, including planning and scheduling training sessions for prisoners.
• Prepare management reports, incident logs and WHS documentation using spreadsheets, templates and in‑house systems.
• Coordinate contractors and suppliers for equipment maintenance and consumable supplies, and escort them on site.
• Maintain training records and ensure compliance with accreditation requirements.

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willingness to obtain within 9 months).
• Construction trade certificate at Cert III level (e.g., Metals and Engineering, Boilermaker Welding).
• Current and valid Construction Industry White Card.
• Australian citizenship or permanent residency.

Required skills

• Proficiency with spreadsheet software for reporting and data management.
• Ability to use in‑house management systems for scheduling and record‑keeping.
