Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

We are seeking a highly capable Senior Legal Counsel to join our team in Hobart, providing expert legal advice across a broad range of commercial, regulatory and operational matters. This is a fixed‑term, 12‑month position reporting to the Deputy General Counsel and acting as a trusted advisor to the business.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely, high‑quality legal advice across commercial, corporate and regulatory matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate complex contracts and agreements.
• Support major projects, procurement activities and infrastructure initiatives.
• Advise on governance, risk management and compliance matters.
• Manage disputes and engage with external counsel where required.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders across the business.

Required profile

• Commercially astute legal professional with a collaborative approach.
• Significant post‑qualification experience (ideally 7+ years) in‑house or private practice.
• Strong experience in commercial contracting, corporate law and/or infrastructure, energy, or government sectors.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.
• Proactive, solutions‑focused mindset.
