Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor – Structural Engineering

About the role

Monash University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is expanding its Structural Engineering group. Two full‑time academic positions are available – a Senior Lecturer (Level C) and an Associate Professor (Level D) – to lead teaching, research and professional engagement in structural engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in building structures and structural analysis.
• Supervise higher degree by research (HDR) candidates and mentor early‑career researchers.
• Develop and maintain an externally funded research programme in areas such as reliability‑based design, modular construction, timber structures, fire engineering, sustainability, blast/impact loading or AI applications.
• Engage with industry partners and contribute to professional activities.
• For the Associate Professor role, provide academic leadership, national/international disciplinary contribution and strategic direction for the group.

Required profile

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research in structural engineering.
• Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications and successful grant acquisition.
• For the Senior Lecturer: ability to take primary responsibility for curriculum delivery and student supervision.
• For the Associate Professor: recognised distinction in the field, leadership experience and sustained industry engagement.
