Senior Backend Developer (Python/Django) – EL1 Level

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Backend Developer to join a Federal Government project in Canberra. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining high‑performance Python/Django services within a 12‑month contract that may be extended. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend applications using Python and the Django framework.
• Design, implement, and optimise database schemas in PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Deploy and manage services on Linux servers using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines and automate DevOps processes.
• Collaborate with version control systems (Git) and ensure code quality through reviews.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience (EL1 equivalent) in backend development.
• Eligibility for NV1 security clearance.
• Willingness to work onsite in Canberra for the contract duration.
• Ability to work independently and within a government‑focused environment.
