Principal Engineer – Roads & Highways

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Engineer to lead our roads and highways practice in Queensland. The successful candidate will join SMEC, a global engineering consultancy within Surbana Jurong, and will be responsible for delivering complex transport infrastructure projects that shape communities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead civil and transport infrastructure design projects with a focus on roads and highways.
• Drive business development across Queensland through client relationship building and repeat work.
• Ensure technical excellence while delivering projects on time and within budget.
• Mentor and develop a local engineering team.
• Contribute to strategic planning and capability expansion in the region.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• 15+ years of experience in roads and highways design and project delivery.
• Strong knowledge of Queensland design standards and market.
• Proven project management and client engagement abilities.
• Commitment to technical excellence and continuous improvement.
• Chartered status (or working towards) is highly regarded.
• Willingness to travel occasionally, domestically or internationally.
