Polyglot Developer – Java, Python & AI Tooling

About the role

Westpac is looking for a passionate polyglot developer to help shape the Westpac Mesh platform. You will build high‑quality software, create AI‑enabled developer tools, and mentor junior engineers while contributing to a vibrant internal developer community.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain APIs and micro‑services primarily in Java, with exposure to Python or Node.js.
• Create AI‑enabled tooling such as search, summarisation, and copilots, ensuring observability, security, and guardrails.
• Implement agentic workflows to automate repetitive engineering tasks while keeping a human‑in‑the‑loop where required.
• Shape technical direction, mentor junior engineers, and remove delivery impediments.
• Contribute to and foster a vibrant technical community within Westpac.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience as a polyglot software engineer.
• Strong experience building APIs and micro‑services in Java.
• Exposure to Python or Node.js.
• Experience integrating AI capabilities, including LLMs, prompt design, and workflow orchestration.
• Passion for agile practices such as TDD, pair programming, and continuous delivery.
