Legal Officer

About the role

The Legal Officer will support Senior Legal Counsels in interpreting and applying legislation related to the Coal Long Service Leave (LSL) Scheme. Working within a Commonwealth Government entity, you will help ensure compliance and provide legal guidance to employers and employees participating in the scheme.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice under the guidance of Senior Legal Counsel on employer compliance with the Coal LSL scheme.
• Analyse information, develop informed views and recommend appropriate actions.
• Conduct legal research, review evidence and prepare memorandums and correspondence.
• Engage with employers, employees and external legal providers on regulatory issues.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support regulatory functions and monitor progress.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a legal role with the ability to read and interpret legislation and case law.
• Strong analytical skills and the capacity to develop clear, actionable recommendations.
• High standard of work delivery, proactive reporting and ability to follow guidance from senior counsel.
