L2 Hardware Engineer – EO (System-Level Hardware)

About the role

The L2 Hardware Engineer supports the Engineering Lead by providing design assurance and engineering oversight for system‑level hardware across mission and support systems. This role focuses on integration, verification and validation (V&V) and ensures compliance with regulatory and Commonwealth requirements within a complex, agile defence environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide design assurance for system‑level hardware, including integration and V&V activities.
• Support development, review and agreement of technical specifications and lifecycle documents.
• Contribute to system architecture and technical design to meet capability needs.
• Assist in test planning, develop procedures and support execution.
• Ensure designs meet performance, safety and security requirements.
• Identify and manage technical risks, contributing to design reviews and program planning.
• Engage and collaborate with stakeholders across Commonwealth, contractors and partners.
• Support HF Radar programmes and maintain engineering standards, tools and compliance practices.

Required profile

• Proven experience in system‑level hardware engineering, preferably within defence or aerospace.
• Ability to work in an agile, multidisciplinary environment.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Experience managing technical risk and contributing to design reviews.
