Financial Controller

About the role

Our client, a growing construction and project‑based business, is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the finance function across multiple entities. Reporting to the CFO/Managing Director, you will partner with senior leadership to support growth and operational performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes for several entities.
• Prepare consolidated management reports, including P&L, balance sheet and cash‑flow statements.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis across the group.
• Manage project accounting: WIP reporting, percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition, progress claims, retentions and cost control.
• Partner with project managers and commercial teams to monitor project profitability.
• Handle intercompany accounting, reconciliations, eliminations and consolidations.
• Ensure compliance with BAS, GST, payroll tax, FBT and other statutory reporting requirements.
• Lead cash‑flow management, treasury activities and banking relationships.
• Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors and other stakeholders.
• Lead, mentor and develop the finance team while driving continuous improvement of finance processes and controls.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance leadership role within construction, engineering or project‑based environments.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to support operational decision‑making.
• Hands‑on leadership style with experience managing multi‑entity structures and consolidated reporting.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
