Energy Market Analyst – Renewables

About the role

We are seeking an Energy Market Analyst to join a leading infrastructure investor’s trading and analytics team. The role focuses on the Australian National Electricity Market, supporting renewable generation and storage assets with data‑driven insights.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse spot price movements, dispatch outcomes and key market drivers.
• Investigate volatility events such as outages, renewable swings and transmission constraints.
• Translate complex market activity into clear, actionable insights for trading decisions.
• Track real‑time NEM fundamentals including demand, generation and interconnector flows.
• Identify emerging risks and opportunities for trading strategies.
• Assess asset performance relative to market conditions and revenue capture.
• Support development and improvement of short‑term forecasts (price, demand, renewables).
• Contribute to modelling frameworks used by trading and investment teams.
• Produce regular performance and market reports for internal stakeholders.
• Build dashboards and analytical tools to improve market visibility.

Required profile

• 2+ years experience in the Australian electricity market (consultancy, market body or industry).
• Desire to progress into a trading role.
• Strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail.
• Commercially minded and confident communicator.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python for data analysis.
• Proficiency in SQL for data analysis.
• Familiarity with AEMO data and NEM dynamics.
• Experience using AI tools to support day‑to‑day tasks (preferred).
