Detail Designer – Multiple Roles

About the role

BAE Systems Australia is seeking experienced Designers and Draftspersons for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract on the Hunter Class Frigate Program. You will join a Detail Design Hub in one of several Australian cities and contribute to high‑quality spatial integration and production outputs using advanced digital engineering tools.

Key responsibilities

• Produce detailed design and drafting deliverables for the Hunter Class Frigate using AutoCAD, FORAN, Windchill and related tools.
• Collaborate with an international design team to ensure outputs meet internal and external customer expectations.
• Maintain technical documentation, records and reports in line with engineering and quality standards.
• Participate in problem‑solving teams to improve technical systems and processes.
• For senior roles, lead a small team of designers and ensure competency in core digital tools.

Required profile

• 2–10 years of design/drafting experience for intermediate roles; 10+ years for senior roles, preferably in maritime or related engineering sectors.
• Ability to work autonomously and communicate progress to functional and project management.
• Commitment to quality standards and continuous improvement.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Experience using FORAN.
• Familiarity with Windchill.
• Knowledge of AVEVA ERM.
