Data Engineer – Automation & ML Deployment

About the role

As a Data Engineer you will design and develop automation systems and deploy machine‑learning models that optimise business operations and decision‑making across all divisions. Based in Chippendale, Sydney, you will report to the Principal Manager, Data Engineering and work in a hybrid environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement automation tools aligned with company objectives.
• Deploy, maintain and monitor production‑grade ML models.
• Collaborate with business units to identify automation opportunities and digital tool development.
• Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines supporting delivery requirements.
• Translate complex business requirements into technical specifications for automation tools.
• Adopt modern frameworks, APIs and development methodologies to drive innovation.
• Mentor colleagues on best practices for software development and data engineering integration.
• Monitor and enhance performance and user experience of existing automation tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering or Statistics.
• Interest in deploying production‑grade ML models.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Data‑driven mindset and adherence to coding best practices.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and stakeholder relationships.
• Passion for fostering a data‑native culture and continuous innovation.
