About the role

The Office of the Director of Child Protection Litigation (ODCPL) is seeking a driven lawyer to join its team and work on high‑profile child protection litigation across Queensland. This temporary fixed‑term role offers exposure to complex, sensitive cases and the chance to make a meaningful impact on vulnerable children and families.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake child protection proceedings, including preparing court documents and advocating in hearings.
• Provide legal advice on court practices and procedures.
• Conduct legal research and draft documents for senior lawyers.
• Maintain compliance with quality and case‑management standards.
• Engage with stakeholders to foster relationships and enhance service delivery.
• Stay up‑to‑date with developments in child protection law.

Required profile

• Strong court advocacy, research and writing abilities.
• Excellent analytical and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage workload effectively and adapt to changing priorities.
• Knowledge of, or willingness to acquire, child protection litigation expertise.
• Admission, or eligibility for immediate admission, as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland and eligibility to practice in the Federal and High Courts of Australia.
• Open C class driver’s licence and willingness to travel intrastate to court locations.
