Blast Operator – FIFO (Various Pilbara Sites)

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking motivated Blast Operators to join its Drill and Blast teams across multiple FIFO sites in the Pilbara region. You will work in a safety‑driven, inclusive environment, balancing productive blasting operations with a family‑friendly roster.

Key responsibilities

• Follow the approved blast plan for each shift, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
• Maintain and inspect explosive magazines, equipment, and loading machinery.
• Conduct stock takes of explosive supplies and perform sampling duties as required.
• Collaborate with supervisors, other functions and stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
• Promote a positive safety culture and report any hazards or incidents.

Required profile

• Commitment to safety and wellbeing of self and team.
• Valid Australian C‑class manual driver’s licence (or higher).
• Dangerous Goods Licence.
• Ability to work flexibly on FIFO rosters (8 + 6 or 8 + 6/7 + 7).
• Team‑oriented mindset and willingness to work in remote mining environments.

Required skills

• MPU (Mine Production Unit) operation experience.
• Small loader operation experience.
• Handling and storage of explosive products.
• Dangerous goods handling certification.
