Water Operator – Water Treatment Plant

About the role

The Water Operator will support the daily operation of two water treatment plants and the associated water distribution network for the Gladstone Area Water Board. This full‑time, permanent role works on a 12‑hour roster (4 days on, 4 days off) and ensures safe, reliable water supply in line with Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor raw and potable water supply networks, including pump stations and pipelines.
• Respond to alarms, manage pressures and maintain chemical stocks for water treatment.
• Perform routine asset inspections, minor maintenance and security checks on plant facilities.
• Conduct water sampling, testing and online quality monitoring, addressing any deviations according to the Drinking Water Quality Management Plan.
• Prepare pipelines for maintenance, ensure adequate reservoir levels and record operational data.
• Support the operation of the Yarwun Water Treatment Plants, including maintenance preparation and alarm response.

Required profile

• Certificate III or IV in Water Industry Operations (or willingness to obtain).
• Current C Class driver’s licence.
• Proficiency in reading maps and simple drawings.
• Experience using technology and instrumentation, including equipment calibration.
• Background in operating water treatment or processing plants.
• Ability to work a shift roster that includes day and night shifts.
