Vocational Specialist - headspace Bankstown

About the role

headspace, the National Youth Mental Health Foundation, is recruiting a Vocational Specialist for its Bankstown team. The position is closed-term full-time (76 hours per fortnight) until 30 June 2027, working Monday to Friday, based in Bankstown with travel to the Castle Hill and Parramatta headspace sites as required. It reports to the headspace Vocational Coordinator within the Individual Placement Support (IPS) program, which improves educational and employment outcomes for young people with mental health concerns.

Key responsibilities

• Work with young people to develop individual support plans with realistic goals and strategies to overcome barriers to employment and/or education
• Support young people to achieve their vocational and/or education goals and link them to suitable employment opportunities
• Work within a multidisciplinary team, including taking part in clinical review meetings and other meetings to promote the vocational program to clinical staff
• Develop partnerships with employers, training providers, educational institutions, community organisations and other health professionals

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in employment services, vocational rehabilitation, career development or a related field
• Knowledge of issues affecting young people with mental health issues when accessing employment and education opportunities
• Proven ability to meet program targets within agreed timeframes
• Strong written and verbal communication, and well-developed interpersonal and organisational skills
• Current Australian driver's licence
• Desirable: lived experience of a mental health issue, knowledge of the local area and its health and community services, and understanding of the IPS model
