Visiting Medical Officer in Anaesthesia

About the role

Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital and Tamara Private Hospital have partnered to offer a Visiting Medical Officer Anaesthetist position in Tamworth. The role is sessional, with a flexible 1-in-16 on-call model and a second on-call roster option. It suits consultants and newly fellowed anaesthetists, offering exposure to a wide range of surgical specialties across public and private hospitals.

Key responsibilities

• Work across both public and private hospitals from the start, with a caseload that includes orthopaedics, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology, ENT, ophthalmology, paediatrics, endoscopy, vascular surgery and trauma.
• Perform ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks and develop expertise in regional anaesthesia.
• Work alongside 15 experienced consultants, 1 Provisional Fellow and 5 registrars or advanced trainees.
• Practice in well-resourced theatres with modern anaesthetic technology.

Required profile

• A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, or an overseas-trained specialist pathway.
• Recent and comprehensive experience in anaesthesia.
• Scholarly approach, maintaining professional development and able to support trainees.
• Skilled communicator and collaborator, able to work in an interdisciplinary setting.
• Managerial ability, including flexibility, leadership experience and safety and quality improvement activities.
• Professional, with clinical governance and advocacy for improved health.
