Underground Mine Geologist - Sunrise Dam

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti is looking for an Underground Mine Geologist to join its Geology team at Sunrise Dam Gold Mine, Western Australia. Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, the role sits on an 8 days on, 6 days off roster, with direct flights available from Perth or Kalgoorlie. Sunrise Dam is described as one of the largest and most geologically complex underground gold operations in WA, using five underground RC rigs and conditional simulation modelling to deliver more than 250koz of gold per year.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with geology and mining teams so the mine plan is executed succinctly and on time.
• Manage and report daily, weekly and monthly production activities against schedule.
• Carry out and oversee underground mapping of development drives and train graduate geologists.
• Update orebody domains from mapping and drilling data, and assist grade control geologists with conditional simulation models.
• Manage drill samples, QAQC of assay results, drill databases, mine-to-mill reconciliations and material tracking.
• Manage reverse circulation drilling from scheduling through design and implementation.
• Maintain cooperative relationships with alliance partners across the site and follow all safety rules and the duty of care.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary degree in Geology.
• Preferably 2 years of mine geology experience and comfort in underground environments.
• Strong sense of safety and good written communication skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of the mining cycle.
• Full Australian working rights.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D software such as Vulcan, Leapfrog and Deswik.
• Experience with QAQC practices.
