Transport Officer – Deceased Persons

About the role

St John Ambulance Victoria is looking for dedicated Transport Officers to provide respectful transport services for deceased persons across the Melbourne metropolitan area and regional Victoria. The role supports the partnership with the Coroners Court Victoria and includes both local collections and repatriations.

Key responsibilities

• Collect deceased persons from places of death, either alone or with a crew member.
• Conduct planned repatriations to regional locations.
• Operate on a rotating roster of 8‑10 hour shifts, responding to activations as required.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold the dignity of the deceased and their families.
• Follow occupational health and safety, manual handling, and infection control procedures.

Required profile

• High level of resilience and ability to manage complex, sensitive situations.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non‑verbal.
• Demonstrated experience working with deceased persons and interacting with families or related stakeholders.
• Professional, respectful attitude when handling and transporting deceased individuals.
• Full driver’s licence with a safe driving record.
