Training & Capability Manager

About the role

The Training & Capability Manager will lead the design, development and delivery of emergency response training programmes for Defence base firefighters. This role ensures personnel are equipped with the knowledge, skills and accreditations required to operate safely across ship‑board, aviation, structural, HAZMAT, road crash rescue and other emergency functions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deliver training programmes aligned with contractual, legislative and industry standards.
• Create and maintain assessment tools, governance frameworks and competency tracking processes.
• Support fire crews in planning and facilitating scenario‑based drills, simulations and emergency exercises.
• Monitor compliance with operational procedures and contractual obligations.
• Drive continuous improvement by gathering feedback, reviewing outcomes and implementing enhancements.

Required profile

• Hold or have held Firefighting qualifications to a Station Officer level, or senior Emergency Response Manager experience within an Australian organisation.
• Eligible for Defence Security Clearance at Negative Vetting 1 (must be an Australian citizen).
• Proven ability to introduce change, evaluate performance and manage contentious issues in high‑risk environments.

Required skills

• Advanced First Aid (HLTAID014) or higher qualification.
• Firefighting operational knowledge at Station Officer level.
