Testing & Assessment Officer (Explosion Protection)

About the role

Simtars is seeking a Testing & Assessment Officer to carry out hands‑on testing and assessment of explosion‑protected equipment used in underground coal mines and other hazardous industrial environments. The role is customer‑focused and requires meticulous attention to detail, clear communication, and a collaborative mindset.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct hazardous protection testing and assessment of equipment and materials in line with relevant standards, procedures and work instructions.
• Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Australian, international and ISO standards, as well as mining and electrical regulations.
• Plan, schedule and deliver testing and assessment services to clients and stakeholders.
• Liaise with internal teams and external parties, handling sensitive information appropriately.
• Contribute ideas for continuous improvement and support the maintenance of NATA, IECEx, JAS‑ANZ and ISO9001 accreditations.

Required profile

• Experience or ability to quickly acquire skills in hands‑on manufacturing, installation or servicing of electrical/mechanical equipment, or a related laboratory/testing role.
• Practical ability to set up and perform tests required for compliance verification.
• Capability to interpret and apply Australian, international and ISO standards.
• Excellent communication skills for direct engagement with clients, colleagues and stakeholders.
• Current, valid driver’s licence.
