Technical Director / Senior Principal / Team Leader - Water Engineering

About the role

A water engineering consultancy, WMAwater, is looking for a Technical Director, Senior Principal or Team Leader to lead its Brisbane office team of up to five people. The role shares time between project involvement and management, working closely with senior staff and Directors in the Sydney and Hobart offices. It suits a civil or environmental engineer with seven years' experience or more.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the firm's strategy and lead the Brisbane office team, building the team and shaping its culture
• Manage the office work program and resourcing, and oversee large projects for key clients
• Manage the office team, including staff development and guidance
• Client liaison and business development with Queensland clients
• Technical input to projects, including hydrologic and hydraulic modelling
• Lead flooding-related projects such as regional and local flood studies, floodplain management studies and flood modelling and forecasting for emergency management
• Work on nationally significant flood projects and research, and contribute to in-house and external software projects

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering
• RPEQ essential
• More than seven years of post-graduate experience in water management, flood management, hydrology and/or hydraulic modelling
• Experience interpreting flood model outputs to inform studies and policy
• Right to work in the location; applications are considered on a case-by-case basis

Required skills

• Hydrologic and hydraulic modelling
• Flood modelling and floodplain management studies
• Excellent verbal and written communication and collaborative leadership skills
• Desirable: experience leading teams, managing large water resource or flood modelling projects, and a strong understanding of the QLD water sector
