System Safety Engineer – Maritime Defence

About the role
The System Safety Engineer supports the identification, assessment and management of safety risks across the engineering lifecycle for maritime defence capabilities. Working within multidisciplinary teams, the role evaluates safety impacts of engineering changes, verifies controls and ensures compliance with relevant standards.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct technical investigations and analysis to identify issues, support problem resolution and recommend design improvements.
- Plan, deliver and monitor engineering tasks to meet time, quality and cost objectives while producing technical documentation and lifecycle records.
- Maintain accurate technical records and knowledge‑management systems to support through‑life asset management.
- Present and discuss technical information with internal and external stakeholders, including formal reviews.
- Conduct technical risk assessments and understand product safety implications of engineering activities.
Required profile
- Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering (Washington Accord) or equivalent recognised qualifications.
- Australian citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
- Qualifications in Systems Engineering, Systems Safety Engineering, Safety Assurance or Risk Management (desirable).
- Post‑graduate qualification in a related technical discipline (desirable).
- Training or certification in Systems Safety Engineering, Hazard Analysis, Risk Assessment, Safety Case development or Safety Assurance methodologies (desirable).
