System Planning Engineer

About the role

AEMO is seeking a System Planning Engineer to help shape Australia’s power system as the nation moves toward a net‑zero future. You will provide expert engineering insight, analyse system performance and deliver actionable recommendations to senior leaders and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support and advice on electricity planning and performance issues to ensure safe, secure and reliable operation of the power system.
• Contribute to key planning documents such as the Integrated System Plan, Electricity Statement of Opportunities and System Strength reports.
• Develop and enhance procedures and methodologies for planning studies and related activities.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders, preparing advice and proposals for network planning matters.
• Prepare high‑quality reports on network capability, performance and related planning issues.
• Build and maintain knowledge of the electrical transmission network, generation in the NEM and the gas market transmission system.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., engineering, mathematics, physics, operations research).
