Supervisor – Commissioning for High‑Voltage Substations

About the role

The Commissioning Supervisor will lead all site commissioning activities for Extra High Voltage (EHV) substations within the Central‑West Orana Renewable Energy Zone project. This role ensures safe, efficient, and standards‑compliant commissioning of primary plant, protection, control, SAS, telecommunications and SCADA systems prior to energisation and handover.

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily commissioning of 500 kV substation equipment and supervise engineers, technicians, OEMs and subcontractors.
• Coordinate commissioning with construction, engineering, client and utility teams, ensuring compliance with procedures, ITPs, ITRs and schedules.
• Verify mechanical completion, manage inspection and test records, and conduct walk‑downs before handover.
• Support development of commissioning procedures, lead Ready‑to‑Energise inspections and coordinate energisation activities.
• Supervise first energisation, system monitoring and post‑energisation performance testing.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of power system commissioning experience.
• At least 5 years in a supervisory or lead commissioning role.
• Proven experience commissioning EHV substations (220 kV‑500 kV+).
• Experience on greenfield transmission network projects and managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong leadership, planning, troubleshooting and stakeholder management skills.
