Staff Software Engineer - Mobile Platform (Rust)

About the role

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of portable libraries that power Canva’s mobile experience on iOS, Android and the web. Based in Sydney and working in a hybrid model, you will write high‑performance, safe code in system languages that will be used by hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Define, design and implement cross‑platform libraries that run on iOS, Android and web.
• Write production‑grade code in Rust and C++ focusing on performance, safety and reliability.
• Collaborate with a technical leadership group of Staff engineers to shape the mobile platform’s direction.
• Work hands‑on to deliver features, conduct code reviews and mentor engineers.
• Communicate library APIs and safety models to frontend teams that consume them.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in mobile development and systems programming.
• Proven ability to work independently and lead technical initiatives.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross‑team collaboration.
• Willingness to work on‑site in Sydney while leveraging a hybrid work arrangement.
