Staff Software Engineer – Android

About the role

CommBank is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and delivery of high‑performing Android applications for Business Banking. You will shape mobile experiences at national scale, influence architecture, and work with emerging Generative and agentic AI technologies to transform how customers interact with the bank.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and scaling of native Android applications and platform capabilities.
• Drive architecture decisions, set engineering standards and champion performance, accessibility, security and reliability.
• Guide cross‑functional teams through the full engineering lifecycle from design to deployment and optimisation.
• Partner with backend, cloud and AI teams to create integrated, data‑driven customer experiences.
• Mentor engineers, improve developer experience and promote operational excellence through monitoring and observability.

Required profile

• Strong experience building and scaling native Android applications.
• Proven ability to lead technical decisions and influence engineering outcomes.
• Deep understanding of mobile architecture and software engineering best practices.
• Experience collaborating with product, design, backend, cloud and AI specialists.
