Specialist Technician – Systems Engineer for School ICT

About the role

Bytewize is seeking experienced Systems Engineers / Specialist Technicians to provide technical support to Victorian schools through the Department of Education’s Technical Support to Schools Program (TSSP). The role can be contracted, casual or permanent and involves managing ICT infrastructure across multiple school sites.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain ICT infrastructure across Department of Education schools.
• Administer and support school networks, servers and cloud services.
• Provide ICT support in large, technology‑driven learning environments.
• Collaborate with school leadership and deliver professional development on ICT.
• Plan, deploy and manage 1:1 and BYOD device programmes.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of senior‑level IT experience in education, TSSP or comparable corporate environments.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication and organisational skills.
• Eligibility to work in Australia, a current driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.
• Willingness to undergo police and background checks.

• Hyper‑V virtualization administration.
• Windows and Linux server administration.
• Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 cloud service administration.
• Mobile Device Management (MDM) deployment and administration.
• Advanced enterprise networking (Cisco & HP switching, Cisco wireless controllers and APs).
• Standard Operating Environment (SOE) and image deployment.
• Support for large fleets of desktops, notebooks and mobile devices.

What we offer

• Salary $90,000 – $110,000 pro‑rata (AUD) with top rates based on experience.
