Special Needs Education Assistant

About the role

South Halls Head Primary School is building a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants to fill permanent, fixed‑term, full‑time and part‑time positions throughout the 2027 school year. The role supports students with complex learning, behavioural, social and emotional needs within an inclusive classroom environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with teachers, families and external agencies to enhance student engagement and wellbeing.
• Provide targeted support for students with medical conditions, including Type 1 Diabetes.
• Assist with classroom management and implementation of evidence‑based instructional approaches.
• Contribute to school initiatives such as the Healthy Breakfast Club.

Required profile

• Flexible, proactive and able to build positive relationships with students.
• Calm, supportive and trauma‑informed approach.
• Willingness to participate in the wider school community.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice.
• Familiarity with Team Teach, Sounds Write and Zones of Regulation programmes.
