Solicitor – Civil Litigation (2 Positions)

About the role

The Department of Families, Fairness and Housing Victoria is seeking two Solicitors to join its Care Leaver Claims team. You will provide strategic, outcome‑focused legal advice and representation on civil proceedings, including historical institutional abuse and personal injury matters.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver well‑reasoned legal advice, briefings and correspondence to internal stakeholders.
• Manage sensitive litigation matters, preparing briefs, litigation materials and instructing counsel or contracted solicitors.
• Collaborate with departmental colleagues to ensure client‑focused legal services.
• Support special projects and advise on statutory interpretation and administrative law issues.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with experience in civil litigation, personal injury or related areas.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative under supervision.
• Strong communication skills and capacity to build effective working relationships across the department.

Required skills

• Legal research and statutory interpretation.
• Drafting of legal documents, briefs and correspondence.
• Litigation support, including case preparation and counsel instruction.
