Software Engineer (Node.js) – Mission-Critical IoT Platform

About the role

We are looking for a Software Engineer with strong Node.js backend experience to join a Sydney‑based engineering team building a mission‑critical IoT and alarm signalling platform that supports over 300,000 connected devices. The role focuses on designing, developing and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs that ensure high reliability and uptime.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain Node.js services
• Develop and improve RESTful APIs
• Support systems that communicate with physical devices
• Design scalable, reliable backend systems
• Work with Docker‑based containerised deployments
• Handle real production traffic and uptime considerations
• Own small‑to‑medium backend initiatives
• Participate in technical discussions and continuous improvement

Required profile

• Strong Node.js backend experience
• Experience building and maintaining production APIs
• Comfortable working in Docker containerised environments
• Understanding of scalable and reliable backend systems
• Ability to work independently with accountability
• Clear communicator with a collaborative mindset
• Nice to have: experience in IoT or other high‑availability systems
• Nice to have: familiarity with monitoring and logging practices
