About the role
Join Wärtsilä’s Product Development team to design, develop, test, and maintain core components of a safety‑critical maritime software platform used worldwide at ports and waterways. Your work will directly impact the reliability and performance of this critical system.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement software components for sensor integration, real‑time data processing, and external system interfaces.
- Develop and maintain radar, ARPA, AIS, network audio, direction‑finder, weather‑station, and recording/playback subsystems.
- Implement interfaces such as IALA IVEF target exchange, proprietary protocols, and REST/OpenAPI integrations with third‑party port management systems.
- Contribute to architecture decisions focusing on performance, redundancy, and high availability.
- Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to quality, safety, and maintainability standards.
- Investigate and resolve defects in live and pre‑production environments, performing root‑cause analysis.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation.
- Collaborate with system engineers, delivery teams, and product management to translate customer and regulatory requirements into software solutions.
Required profile
- Proven experience developing production‑grade software.
- Strong understanding of asynchronous I/O, socket programming, and protocol parsing (TCP/UDP).
- Experience developing for Windows‑based platforms.
- Ability to work with large, existing codebases.
- Excellent analytical and debugging skills in complex, multi‑component systems.
- Proficiency in C++.
- Desirable: experience with real‑time or safety‑critical systems and familiarity with sensor protocols such as NMEA.
