Software Engineer I – Network Management

About the role

Opengear is looking for a Software Engineer I to help design, develop, and maintain software that powers its next‑generation network management products. This entry‑level position is based in Brisbane, Australia, and offers the chance to work on a resilient platform used by many Fortune 500 companies.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and maintain software features and components within larger systems.
• Contribute across the software stack, including systems software, services, and applications.
• Write clean, maintainable code in languages such as Rust, C/C++, or Python, with guidance from senior engineers.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and sprint planning.
• Debug and resolve routine to moderately complex issues in development and test environments.
• Collaborate with product management, hardware, QA, and operations teams.
• Develop and execute unit and integration tests to ensure software quality.
• Follow established development processes and contribute to continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Rust, C/C++, Python, Go, JavaScript).
• Working knowledge of Linux‑based development environments.
• Experience using Git or similar version‑control systems.
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and debugging techniques.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
