About the role

The Medicare Mental Health Centre Canterbury provides a welcoming, low-stigma entry point for adults needing timely mental health support, using an Open Dialogue approach. It is preparing to move into a larger, purpose-built centre and will soon operate seven days a week, so it seeks team members who can offer flexibility, including weekend and afternoon shifts. The role is a 6-month full-time fixed-term position in the Canterbury area, working within a multidisciplinary team and reporting to the program manager.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, flexible support to clients, families and carers, including advanced assessment, psychoeducation, formulation, treatment planning and clinical interventions in line with the AASW Code of Ethics and National Standards for Mental Health Services.
  • Deliver a range of short-term clinical interventions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote and facilitate client access to primary mental health care services.
  • Provide care coordination and advocacy tailored to each client's needs.
  • Apply professional judgement, adapting routine clinical practice to evidence for people with complex care needs.

Required profile

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work with current registration with the relevant professional body (AASW).
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical assessments and evidence-based mental health interventions.
  • Understanding of the recovery-based approach to supporting people with mental health concerns.
  • Knowledge of the NSW mental health system and local services, or the ability to learn it quickly.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to work with internal and external stakeholders.

What we offer

  • Salary packaging of up to $15,900.
  • Discounted workplace health and fitness program for you and your family.
  • Leave perks including birthday leave, study leave and an extra annual picnic day.
  • Access to a workplace banking portal with CommBank benefits.

To apply, use the online application on the employer's careers site (reference 500675); applications must be submitted by 11pm on 4 November 2026. Staff need a current Working with Children's Check, NDIS Worker Screening clearance and appropriate vaccination. Applications are reviewed as they come in and the position may close early.
