Social Visitor Volunteer - Men's Shed Memories

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity supporting people to stay in their homes, is looking for a friendly volunteer to visit an elderly gentleman living independently in Chittaway Bay. He enjoys company and conversation and fondly remembers his time at Men's Shed, where he loved woodturning, working with timber and sharing stories. The visit is simply a cuppa, a chat and some companionship, with no rush or pressure.

Key responsibilities

• Share a cuppa with the client
• Have a friendly chat and listen
• Talk about past projects and favourite tools
• Reminisce about Men's Shed days

Visits are weekly or fortnightly, between 9am and 5pm, lasting about an hour. HammondCare arranges a police check and pays for it; volunteers commit to about one hour of visits for six months or longer, Monday to Sunday.

Required profile

• 18 years or older
• National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare
• Availability for regular visits of about an hour, Monday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm
