Service Manager - Commercial HVAC

About the role

A Sydney-based commercial HVAC business with over 30 years of operation is looking for a Service Manager to lead its service department. The business serves commercial clients across the Sydney metro area, including strata buildings, offices, retail centres and industrial facilities, covering preventative maintenance contracts, reactive repairs, installation projects and AFSS compliance. The role sits above team leaders, service coordinators and field technicians, with a start date of ASAP, targeting within 4 weeks.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day service operations: scheduling, dispatch and delivery of PPM contracts, reactive work and project jobs
• Lead team leaders and the service coordination team, building a team that performs consistently without daily intervention
• Own key client relationships, manage escalations, complaints and contract renewals
• Ensure job data integrity, workflow compliance and invoicing readiness on AroFlo
• Manage job costing, margins, purchase orders and labour efficiency
• Oversee AFSS obligations, inspection schedules, Annual Fire Safety Statements, licences and WHS requirements
• Scope and price reactive and project work, and manage installation and project jobs through to completion
• Report weekly to the Director and escalate decisions that need their input

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience building or restructuring a service department, not just maintaining one
• Proven background as a Service Manager, Operations Manager or equivalent in HVAC, fire services or a comparable trades business
• Experience managing a team of more than 2-3 people and developing team leaders and coordinators
• Sydney-based, able to be present on site regularly

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of AroFlo or a comparable field service management platform
• Understanding of job margins, cost control and subcontractor management
• Experience quoting reactive and project work
• Highly regarded: HVAC trade qualification, AFSS compliance experience, HRIS such as Employment Hero, and subcontractor coordination
