Senior/Staff C++ Software Engineer – Edge Systems

About the role

Shield AI is looking for a Senior or Staff C++ Software Engineer to shape the software foundation of autonomous edge systems that operate in demanding real‑world environments. The role sits in the Edge Systems team, bridging software and hardware on Linux‑based platforms such as NVIDIA Jetson, ARM64 and Windows.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical direction for edge compute, imaging, sensor integration and mission‑critical software across multiple projects.
• Design, develop, test and maintain production‑grade C++ applications for Linux and Windows edge platforms.
• Integrate RGB, NIR and thermal cameras, GPS, IMU and other sensors using interfaces like MIPI CSI, GMSL, Ethernet or serial.
• Optimize software for latency, throughput, power consumption and thermal performance on constrained hardware.
• Mentor engineers, conduct design reviews and drive engineering excellence through standards and best practices.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong commercial experience developing modern C++ software for Linux and user‑space applications that interface with cameras, sensors, GPUs or storage.
• Proven ability to own end‑to‑end technical work from ambiguous requirements through design, implementation and delivery.

Required skills

• Modern C++ (C++14/17/20) on Linux and Windows.
• Linux system development, debugging and performance tuning.
• Experience with NVIDIA Jetson or comparable ARM64 edge compute platforms.
• Sensor and camera integration (RGB, NIR, thermal) using MIPI CSI, GMSL, Ethernet, etc.
• Imaging pipelines and libraries such as OpenCV, GStreamer or FFmpeg.
• GPU acceleration technologies like CUDA.
