Senior Structural Engineer - Offshore Oil & Gas
ICON Engineering · Perth
Job description
About the role
ICON Engineering, a privately owned consultancy delivering offshore oil and gas projects since 1997, is hiring a Senior Structural Engineer in Perth. The role sits at the technical centre of its structural engineering scope, which ranges from brownfields topsides modifications and jacket reinforcements to specialised equipment design and offshore construction support. You will carry design authority across offshore and onshore scopes, work directly with project engineers and construction teams, and see your solutions through from calculation to installation.
Key responsibilities
- Lead structural design across brownfields modifications, topsides upgrades, jacket reinforcements and specialised equipment, from concept to fabrication-ready deliverables.
- Own structural calculations, design reports and engineering deliverables to offshore codes (DNV, API, ISO, AS).
- Develop constructible designs from first principles or engineer sketches, with input into fabrication and installation methodology.
- Supervise and check CAD designers and junior engineers while keeping technical ownership.
- Run inter-discipline reviews, clash detection and interface checks across structural, mechanical and piping scopes.
- Work directly with clients on technical matters, present design solutions, respond to queries and manage scope changes.
Required profile
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent) with at least 8 years of structural design experience in oil and gas, offshore or resources.
- Detailed structural design experience on offshore or brownfields projects, owning calculations, reports and deliverables end to end.
- Ability to turn designs into safe, constructible solutions and engage with fabricators and construction teams.
- Desirable: CPEng or equivalent registration, subsea equipment design or installation support experience, exposure to installation scopes such as rigging arrangements and lift plans, and familiarity with NOPSEMA and Australian offshore safety case requirements.
Required skills
- SPACE GASS or equivalent structural analysis software.
- Working knowledge of SACS, Strand7 or equivalent.
- Solid working knowledge of DNV, API, ISO and AISC codes and specifications.
The position is permanent and full time, based in the CBD with a 9-day fortnight. Applications are direct only, no agencies.
