Senior Software Engineer, Spend

About the role

Airwallex is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design and build backend services for its Spend Management team. You will work on the Accounting Hub, ensuring accurate, reliable, and compliant financial data for global customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, secure backend services powering the Cards product.
• Contribute to architecture and long‑term technical vision of backend systems.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery of new features, from design through production.
• Write high‑quality, testable code with focus on reliability and maintainability.
• Promote engineering best practices, including observability and API design.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and design teams.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Hands‑on experience building backend systems and APIs in production.
• Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and distributed systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Kotlin, Go, Python).
• Experience with REST API design and frameworks such as Spring Boot.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS or GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk) is a plus.
