Senior Software Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a senior software engineer to help modernise advanced capability systems that support Australia’s national security. The role is based in Adelaide’s Edinburgh Defence precinct and works within a collaborative Agile team to deliver high‑performance software for complex scientific and engineering outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain software solutions for complex engineering applications.
• Analyse business and system requirements and translate them into robust technical designs.
• Build full‑stack solutions including user interfaces, backend services, databases and system integrations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams using Agile tools such as Jira, Confluence and Git/Bitbucket.
• Perform software testing, validation, defect resolution and configuration management.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation in line with Defence standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum five years of experience in software development and modernisation projects.
• Strong programming experience in Python, C++, Java and/or JavaScript.
• Proven experience delivering full‑stack applications, APIs, databases and modern software architectures.
