Senior Project Manager – Queensland Herbarium

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Senior Project Manager to lead the operational management of the Queensland Herbarium’s facilities and public‑facing services. Based in the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coottha, you will support the Herbarium’s mission to provide critical biodiversity knowledge and environmental sustainability for Queensland.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Biodiversity Information and Advisory Service, ensuring high‑quality delivery to the public.
• Oversee the Herbarium’s buildings, facilities and vehicle fleet, including maintenance, safety compliance and contractor coordination.
• Provide strategic and operational advice to senior leadership, driving business improvement and process optimisation.
• Lead a small, high‑performing team, fostering collaboration, performance management and workload prioritisation.
• Coordinate risk‑management activities and support initiatives that enhance operational efficiency.
• Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace that values equity, diversity and inclusion.

Required profile

• Proven experience in project management with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results under pressure.
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical capabilities to assess complex situations and implement innovative solutions.
• Excellent communication, liaison and negotiation skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
• Demonstrated experience in leading teams, including performance management and fostering a collaborative culture.
