Senior Platform Engineer

About the role

This newly created senior platform engineer role will shape platform engineering as a discipline at Nearmap, shifting from traditional DevOps to platform‑as‑a‑product. You will treat the platform as a product and engineering teams as customers, delivering self‑service tools, golden paths and reusable components.

Key responsibilities

• Gather requirements from engineering teams, triage platform requests and turn friction points into platform improvements.
• Design, build and maintain cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, observability and self‑service tooling.
• Write and deploy Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and implement security controls as code.
• Maintain high availability of platform services and improve monitoring and observability.
• Influence and educate teams on platform engineering practices and cloud security.

Required profile

• 5+ years in platform or infrastructure engineering.
• 3+ years with public cloud (AWS preferred) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong experience with Linux, Terraform, CI/CD design and observability tools.
• Hands‑on experience in highly available production environments.
• Proactive, collaborative and able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
