Senior Pharmacist (Outreach) - North West Queensland

About the role

The North West Hospital and Health Service (NWHHS) is recruiting a Senior Pharmacist (Outreach) to deliver high-level clinical pharmacy services to regional and remote communities in North West Queensland. The role supports safe and effective medicines management in Mount Isa and surrounding facilities, combining clinical expertise with leadership and service improvement. There are two positions: one permanent full-time and one temporary full-time (4 months, with possible extension).

Key responsibilities

• Provide advanced clinical pharmacy services through onsite outreach visits, telehealth and other innovative approaches.
• Give clinical guidance, supervision and education to pharmacy staff, students and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support medication safety, evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives across outreach services.
• Travel to remote sites by car and air, staying away from Mount Isa for up to 3 weeks per month, with overnight accommodation for up to 4 nights per week.

Required profile

• A tertiary degree in Pharmacy and full registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency.
• Category D rural and remote allowance eligibility; eligible health practitioners also receive an extra three days of professional development leave per year.
• C Class motor vehicle licence.
• Pre-employment screening, including criminal history checks; the role is a VPD risk role and may require proof of immunity to Hepatitis A/B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, pertussis and tuberculosis.
• Willingness to work under a department roster plan that may include on-call service and weekend work, and a possible probation period.

• Rural and remote Category D allowance of $431.22 per fortnight.
• Professional development allowance of $3,512 per year for eligible health practitioners in designated remote areas.
