Senior Payroll Officer

About the role

The Shoe Group is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to manage the fortnightly end‑to‑end payroll for over 1,200 employees across multiple entities and states. Based in the Gillman Support Office, you will act as the operational 2IC for the Payroll & Compliance Manager, ensuring payroll runs accurately, compliantly and on time.

Key responsibilities

• Process the fortnightly payroll for 1,200+ staff, handling employee changes, allowances, deductions, leave, back‑payments and terminations.
• Validate time and attendance data, resolve payroll exceptions and investigate complex discrepancies.
• Interpret and apply Modern Awards, industrial instruments and relevant legislation, ensuring correct PAYG, superannuation and statutory treatments.
• Provide operational coverage for the Payroll & Compliance Manager and act as the senior technical point of reference for the team.
• Collaborate with People & Culture, Finance and operational teams to improve payroll processes, controls and systems.

Required profile

• Approximately 10 years of hands‑on payroll experience, including end‑to‑end processing for large workforces (500+ employees).
• Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, Modern Awards, PAYG and superannuation.
• Experience processing payroll across multiple Australian states and territories.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet critical payroll deadlines.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with large‑scale payroll and workforce management systems, preferably Dayforce.
