Senior or Principal Research Fellow – Plant Genomics

About the role

The Food Futures Institute at Murdoch University is seeking a Senior Research Fellow (Level C) or a Principal Research Fellow (Level D) to lead innovative genomics and pre‑breeding research for sustainable pulse, wheat and horticultural crops.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary research programs including field trials, genotyping, sequencing, bioinformatics and AI‑enabled breeding.
• Secure competitive research funding, manage major grant projects and supervise HDR students and research staff.
• Develop strategic collaborations with universities, industry, government and international partners.
• Translate research outcomes into practical breeding applications and contribute to teaching and governance.

Required profile

• PhD in Agricultural Biotechnology, Genetics, Plant Breeding or related field.
• At least five years of research experience in crop genomics and pre‑breeding with a strong publication record.
• Demonstrated ability to obtain research funding and lead multidisciplinary projects.

• Fixed‑term (3 years) full‑time contract – Level C $141,088‑$162,403 or Level D $169,509‑$186,557 (pro rata) plus 17% superannuation.
