Senior Middleware Engineer

About the role

Leidos Australia is seeking a Senior Middleware Engineer to design, implement and optimise enterprise middleware platforms that enable reliable integration across applications, databases and services. You will work closely with developers, architects and cybersecurity teams to deliver secure, resilient and scalable integration solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, configure, maintain and optimise middleware platforms such as application servers, API gateways and messaging technologies.
• Design and support secure integration solutions using APIs, web services, event‑driven architectures and service interfaces.
• Lead troubleshooting, performance tuning, upgrades, migrations and disaster‑recovery activities.
• Develop automation, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring solutions and infrastructure‑as‑code practices to improve reliability.
• Partner with application, infrastructure, architecture and business teams, providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers.

Required profile

• Significant experience in middleware or integration engineering with senior‑level technical expertise.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to lead investigations and convey technical risks.
• Australian citizenship and eligibility for NV‑1 security clearance.

Required skills

• Enterprise middleware platforms: Oracle WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, JBoss/WildFly, Tomcat.
• APIs and integration: REST, SOAP, XML, JSON, web services.
• Messaging technologies: IBM MQ, Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ.
• Linux/Unix environments, networking, security controls, performance monitoring and automation.
• Cloud or hybrid environments, container technologies, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, DevOps/DevSecOps practices.
