Senior Manager Data Engineering (Lead Specialist)

About the role

Transport for NSW is recruiting a Senior Manager Data Engineering (Lead Specialist) in Sydney. The role leads the Data Engineering function that designs, builds and optimises secure, scalable and governed data solutions across a complex infrastructure delivery portfolio, and sets the technical direction for data architecture, integration, modelling and transformation.

Key responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for data architecture, integration, modelling and transformation so that data pipelines and platforms give reliable, timely and cost-effective access to information.
• Build and lead a high-performing technical team, establish engineering standards and quality controls, and embed data governance, security and automation throughout the data lifecycle.
• Work with architects, analysts, technology partners and business stakeholders to turn strategic and operational needs into robust data products, balancing delivery priorities, platform performance, compliance and long-term sustainability.

Required profile

• Extensive leadership experience in data engineering, data platforms and enterprise data management in large, complex organisations such as government, infrastructure, engineering or transport.
• Recognised as a strategic and credible engineering leader who communicates complex technical matters clearly, influences senior stakeholders and leads multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience setting technical standards, guiding architecture and design decisions, managing competing priorities and enterprise dependencies, and fostering accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
