Senior Legal Counsel - Infrastructure Projects

About the role

GHD is looking for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its APAC legal team, which works on interesting project work with a wide remit. The role supports GHD with strategic engagement on complex, high-value and high-risk projects, with a particular focus on major infrastructure and engineering matters. It is a broad generalist role with a strong projects focus, advising across the full lifecycle of major projects.

Key responsibilities

• Review, negotiate and draft commercial contracts, including consultancy agreements for design and construct, design only, alliancing and professional services on major infrastructure projects.
• Provide guidance, advice and direction on legal issues for technical and operational staff.
• Partner with Project Directors and Project Managers on the documentation, finalisation and execution of contracts.
• Advise on general legal issues in a global consulting firm, including employment, privacy and contract law, intellectual property law, commercial disputes and litigation management.
• Advise on legislative compliance, internal policies and some corporate governance matters.
• Work with the GHD Project and Business Leadership teams in contract negotiations.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in commercial contracting and negotiation, with depth in infrastructure, engineering or construction project environments.
• Current unrestricted Practising Certificate, with demonstrated seniority commensurate with a Senior Legal Counsel role.
• Experience across varied procurement models (design and construct, alliancing, PPP), including contract review and drafting for complex projects.
• Deep experience across the full lifecycle of major projects, from procurement through delivery and dispute resolution.
• Experience working in geographically dispersed or multi-disciplinary teams.
• Preferred: in-house legal experience, particularly in an engineering, infrastructure or professional services environment.
