Senior Legal Adviser

About the role

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Legal Adviser to shape important legal decisions across the Victorian Government. You will work on complex public‑law and litigation matters that have a real impact on the community, joining an experienced legal team to deepen your public‑law expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on complex public law, litigation and government matters.
• Manage high‑profile litigation and advisory matters across multiple government clients.
• Conduct thorough legal research, interpret legislation and develop practical advice.
• Prepare high‑quality legal documents, reports, briefs and ministerial correspondence.
• Collaborate closely with the Office of the General Counsel and build strong relationships across the department.

Required profile

• Admission or eligibility to be admitted as a legal practitioner in Victoria.
• Extensive experience providing senior advice in administrative, public and human‑rights law.
• Familiarity with Victorian Government and Cabinet processes.
• Strong judgment, ability to manage competing priorities and support an inclusive workplace.
